Merge is born!

Merge

August 22-26 2010

What it is...

This is an interdisciplinary art retreat designed to create a clearing in which artists from different backgrounds can come together in an environment that fosters play, exploration, and sharing of ideas. Set in the beautiful Methow Valley in Northeast Washington, artists will have the opportunity to interact with the rich, natural surroundings while engaging in a variety of activities.

Activities...

Greet each morning with Yoga and movement classes led by Merge facilitator Heidi Diaz. Following breakfast the group will engage in a variety of informal workshops led by contributing artists from the camp. After lunch smaller groups will form to develop micro-projects that will be shared with the entire group later that evening. All involved will have the opportunity to contribute to a communal dinner nightly. Other activities may include trips to nearby natural areas, local farmers’ markets, small towns, etc.

Lodging...

Groups of two or more will share a hut, pictured above. Huts sleep two to four people and have simple amenities. Full descriptions and photos available at www.rollinghuts.com.

Cost...

Though there is no cost for the workshops and daily activities, each participant will need to pay for their own lodging, food, and transportation. We estimate this being in a range of $300-$400 pp, depending on personal needs. In addition, participants may be asked to contribute some supplies needed for projects. Payment for lodging is due in full by July 16th.

Who we are looking for...

We are looking for artists at any stage of their creative careers who are committed to working within this temporary community with curiosity, a sense of humor, and a desire to contribute. We encourage artists from any discipline to contact us. Though we wish to work in a spirit of collaboration with a somewhat flexible schedule allowing time to follow where inspiration may take us, we are looking for a few participants to lead the group in activities. If you are interested in contributing in this manner, please let us know. All participants should expect to engage in exercises, art forms, and activities that may not be their first creative language. Couples and families welcome.

How do I become involved?

Please contact Heidi Diaz at 971.678.7752 or via email at lunabluediaz@yahoo.com. We are hoping to have 12-15 participants total and expect spaces to fill quickly. The more participants are able to share huts, the lower individual costs will be. Your payment for lodging guarantees your space.

Can’t participate, but still want to contribute?

We will gratefully accept monetary contributions in any amount as well as supplies, food, and other resources you may have to offer. These generous offerings will be primarily used to help lower the cost for participants and to support documentation of projects.
